He’s a role-model to me. He speaks like a romantic, but when he’s truthful, he’s harsh and merciless, but straight to the point. He’s always in style and he’s so independent and ambitious. He lives by himself, he’s his own entertainment, he’s capable of making himself happy without depending on others.

He’s someone I want to be.

I want to be independent, I don’t want to rely on anyone else. I want to be someone that I can and want to be friends with.

I’m rambling, but I wanted to show my appreciation for this guy who I shall not name. He’s just.. Amazing. I have never met anyone like him before. He’s certainly one of a kind.

Diversity in Media - It’s a big deal

In media, it’s hard to find characters of different ethnicity. Even today, most artists, writers, and directors would rather have an all white cast of characters. Or even if that writer/artist had a diversed cast, people tend to whitewash them to make them “better-looking” or because it’s “easier” to draw/find pictures of them. Most of the time, these people say that the skin color of a person doesn’t matter. Hey, diversity in media shouldn’t matter at all as long as the character has a great personality, right?!

Yes, personality is important, but so is diversity. There’s a reason why Korra from LoK is such a big deal and why many people love her. She’s a strong female character. We can even say it shouldn’t matter what her gender is, but to many girls watching, it does matter. It’s rare to ever see a girl in an action-fantasy genre where she’s not a side character or the main hero’s love interest. She’s a pretty big deal, especially since she’s a WOC.

What many people fail to see why it’s such a big deal to have diversity in media. They believe that personality matters more than race. While I can see where they’re coming from and while personality does matter, these same people don’t have to worry about being represented in media so it’s not a big deal to them if there’s not a lot of POC in the shows they watch or the books they read. Hey, it’s not even a big deal to them, if a POC was whitewashed because to them, ‘race shouldn’t matter, only personality’. Anti-whitewashing blogs exist to stop racism, to tell artists, ‘Hey, this character is fine with the skin color they have, there’s nothing wrong with them, so don’t fix them’ whether the artist intended to whitewash or not. Not only that, but anti-whitewashing blogs are also saying, ‘Hell no, we’re not letting you take away the only characters we have that are POC’.

There’s a reason why the Disney Princesses, for example, have a princess of a different ethnicity, so kids can look up to them and relate to them. Look at the heroes in Young Justice, it’s very diversed-Artemis is part Vietnamese, Aqua Lad is black, and so on. Children feel included when they see their favorite heroes being the same race as them. My little brother was ecstatic when he found out Generator Rex was Mexican. He felt closer to him and Rex became one of his heroes. Not only because he thought Rex was pretty cool, but he felt like he could relate to him more.

My favorite artist was on the topic of diversity with her co-worker. Specifically, how Asian males are under-represented in media. She was explaining why it’s important to have representation of POC in media. In the middle of the conversation, her co-worker asked, “Is [ethnicity] that big of a deal? They can’t relate to a character just because of their ethnicity?” To which she responds with, ”So why SHOULDN’T we change one male hero to an Asian? Can’t we all relate to him despite his ethnicity?” Her co-worker fell silent.

In conclusion, even if race doesn’t matter to you in the shows you watch or in the books you read. It matters to me, and it matters to my brother who looks up to Generator Rex. Most of all, it matters to the kids who need heroes like them.

So, I finished my first semester 2 days ago, and for my grades, I pretty much got one C and the rest are B’s. [: I feel pretty good, could have been better though. Anyways, hopefully, I’ll be able to start putting my art up this summer and start taking commissions. Seriously, I never had a part-time job before and I don’t feel like getting one if I know I’m not going to enjoy it. I know work isn’t supposed to be fun, but why would I want to do something that’s only going to make me miserable? That just doesn’t make sense to me, I want to do something that I will find enjoyable. That’s why I’d rather draw for money so I’m going to dedicate my summer to art and writing.

44.) I have respect for people who are willing to learn and who try to keep a open-mind

People who are stubborn and are not willing to learn just limit their perception, and they choose not to keep an open-mind because they think their opinion is the only right answer, yet when people disagree with them or get offended by them, these people ask themselves questions like, “Why am I getting attacked?”, “Why is this such a big deal?”, or ”Why are people getting offended over this?” rather than just asking the person that disagreed or got offended, they just dismiss it. They are not willing to ask or try to understand.

Sometimes people just disappear from my life without warning, or sometimes they fade away slowly. At first, it’s frustrating, but in the end, I just don’t care. It’s like waking up one morning and suddenly, not caring for that person who left.

I guess they were never that important to begin with.

But it’s okay, because I do it all the time. I’d rather just concentrate on myself and worry about myself.

It’s not about family bonding anymore.

There are other ways to troll you know without disrespecting a child’s death.

I have a problem with people in the ‘trayvoning tag’ who think it’s funny to mock a child’s death. Trayvon Martin was an innocent child who was shot while he was on his way home, and the murderer who killed him mostly likely did it out of hate. People who have started this meme have also tried justifying their actions, even going as far as to call anyone who is offended by this so-called joke ‘sensitive’ or humorless’. So, here is my argument against theirs.

“It’s just a joke.”

Tell me how many children had their deaths made into jokes? Why is Trayvon any different? Why is his death funny? This is what I want to understand. If one of these individuals who already ‘trayvoned’ answered with, “Well, I’m trolling.” then that’s not a good reason at all. In fact, there’s many other ways to troll without being a racist, and without disrespecting a child’s death. Honestly, if you want to troll, be more creative instead of sinking low to a point where you’re mocking someone who died. Someone who is a child and is completely innocent mind you. How can anyone not think of Trayvon’s family or how he would feel? How can someone be so heartless, that’s what I want to know.

“You’re just sensitive, you need to go do something more productive.”

Making a rant about racism and calling out others on their racism might not be productive to you, but I am defending a child’s death along with other people who are equally as offended and disgusted as I am. Not only that, but by making this post,I am spreading awareness on ‘trayvoning’ so this won’t happen again to another person.

“But I’m not doing it out of racism, so I’m not racist!1!! Look up the definition!”

That is a horrible argument. If I were to say a bunch of racial slurs to someone who is african-american, then go, “I’m not saying it cause I’m racist, I’m saying it as a joke~*~*~”. That just sounds not only racist, but ignorant and full of bigotry as well.

“Well, Bin Ladden is dead and people have mocked him.”

Of course, people have mocked him. He was responsible for the 9/11 attacks and many innocent people. You can’t even compare Bin Ladden’s death to Trayvon’s.

This is why I’m tagging this post with people who have trayvoned and have failed to see the consequences of their actions.

Look around you, no one’s laughing.

43.) A year or two ago, my best friend and I would read books to each other over the phone.

We would read a chapter to each other. It must have been painful for her to read to me though because I would always fall asleep on her. It’s not that her book is boring, it’s just a mistake on my part to always rest in a bed while she reads to me because I eventually fall asleep.
